  • Register with a GP

    A GP, or General Practitioner, is a doctor you can visit for basic medical care and advice. In the UK, everyone has the right to register with a GP, and you can see them for free. If you need to see a specialist or go to the hospital, your GP can refer you for further treatment.

    How to register with a GP

    • Find your closest GP.

    • Fill out a registration form, which you can collect from the GP.

  • Register with a dentist

    In the UK, dentists are healthcare professionals who specialize in taking care of your teeth and gums. You can register with a dentist to have regular check-ups and treatments for any dental issues you may have. Some dental treatments may be free, while others may require you to pay a fee, but emergency dental care is available for everyone.

    How to register with a dentist

    • Find your closest dentist

    • Fill out a registration form, which you can collect from the dentist

  • Receive appropriate medical care

    As an asylum seeker or refugee in the UK, you have the right to access medical care and treatment through the National Health Service (NHS). There are support systems in place, such as interpreter services and advocacy organizations, to help you navigate the healthcare system and ensure you receive the care you need.

    How to access interpretation for appointments

    • When you book an appointment, let the health care provider know that you would like an interpreter present.

    How to get emergency health care

    • If it is a life-threatening emergency

      • Call 999

      • Visit James Cook Hospital Accident and Emergency Department (go to website, go to map)

    • If it’s not a life-threatening emergency

      • Call 111 or visit 111 online

      • Go to Redcar Primary Care Centre Urgent Treatment Centre. You do not need to book an appointment (Go to website, go to map)
