Sharing Love Beyond Valentine’s: Ripples of Kindness Challenge

Valentine’s Day often focuses our attention on romantic love — but love, in its truest form, is so much bigger than one day or one relationship. It’s found in everyday moments: in kindness shown to strangers, in time given freely, and in choosing to see and care for one another.

The Bible reminds us to love others as God loves usunconditionally, sacrificially, and with endless patience. Like the sea, it is deep, wide, and always present. We are like rivers, carrying that love into the world around us. And the beautiful truth is this: the more love we give, the more God fills us back up.

Love doesn’t run out when it’s shared — it multiplies.

That’s why this month we’re inviting our community to take part in Ripples of Kindness. Small, simple acts of love can create waves of hope far beyond what we might expect. A smile, a helping hand, or a kind word may feel small — but in God’s hands, they can make a lasting difference.

Ripples of Kindness: 19-Day Challenge Prompts

This Valentine’s season, choose one small act of kindness — or more if you’re able — and see how God’s love flows through you:

  1. Smile and make eye contact with someone you pass today

  2. Say a genuine “good morning” to someone you don’t usually speak to

  3. Hold the door open or let someone go first

  4. Offer a sincere compliment — about effort, kindness, or character

  5. Send an encouraging message to someone who might need it

  6. Thank someone who often goes unnoticed

  7. Listen without rushing when someone shares how they’re feeling

  8. Pray quietly for someone you encounter today

  9. Lend a hand to someone carrying something heavy or struggling

  10. Buy a hot drink or snack for someone in need

  11. Write a short note of appreciation to a friend, neighbour, or colleague

  12. Check in on someone you haven’t heard from in a while

  13. Be patient and kind in a situation that tests you

  14. Offer your seat or make space for someone else

  15. Encourage someone’s gift or effort, especially if they doubt themselves

  16. Forgive a small frustration and choose grace instead

  17. Leave a kind review or note for a local business or service worker

  18. Invite someone for a coffee or walk — or simply keep them company

  19. Speak hope into a difficult conversation

You don’t need to do something big to make a difference. One small ripple can travel further than we ever imagine.

As we move through this season, may we remember that love is not limited or scarce. When it comes from God, it is endlessly renewed — flowing through us and out into our community.

We’d love to hear how you’re getting on with the Ripples of Kindness challenge. If you feel comfortable, please share your experience in the comments — whether it’s a small moment that made you smile, something that surprised you, or a ripple you noticed along the way. Your story might be exactly the encouragement someone else needs today.

Lord, help us to be channels of Your love.

Open our eyes to the opportunities around us to show kindness, patience, and compassion.

Fill our hearts so that even our smallest actions may carry Your love to others.

Amen.

Reflective Question:

This week, where could a small act of love make a difference in someone’s day — and how might God be calling you to be that ripple?

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

— 1 Corinthians 16:14
